>> Weston Peick has found himself back on a Suzuki and is working hard to show the bike is as good as the Yamaha. Weston took a commend-
able 8th last weekend at the opening round and was eager to get back
to it on Saturday in San Diego. Qualifying is never Weston’s strong suit
as he proved that he is a racer again in Petco Park. He would go to the Heat knowing what he had to do to make up time on his fellow competi- tors. Weston did not get the start he needed when the gate dropped for
the stacked 450 Heat 2. He was running inside the top 15 early on and was doing everything he could to avoid a crash. A couple laps later, it
was clear that Peick had accepted that he was going to the Semi as he saved his energy during the remaining minutes. In the Semi, Weston got
a much better start and was able to secure 2nd place halfway through the first lap. The rest was history as he took 2nd place and would go onto the big show. When the Main began, Weston took off out of the gate but was pinched off early going into the first turn. He was forced to let off and was counted in 9th place by the beginning of the second lap. Weston put his head down and started to do what he does best, race. He began to reel in Justin Brayton early on and was able to make the pass quickly. He would then maintain 8th place for a bunch of laps until catching his next victim, Davi Millsaps. He was able to muscle passed Davi painlessly and lay down some clean laps to pull away. It worked out for Weston and he was able to hold down 7th place until the checkers flew.
