450 SX / 19TH
IMAGE / MPG WORDS / LANNAN DESIGN / WILSON
>> Vince Friese has been a common name in nearly every 450 Main event of the last year and a half. Vince is a racer at heart and will do anything to make a pass on a rider in front of him. Although this has brought him much controversy over the course of his career, there is no doubt that he has the speed to back it up. Vince has a unique style when he is on the track and he was ready to show some of his flash as the day began in Daytona. Vince looked quick in practice and qualified with an impressive 13th fastest time. He was ready to race as the gate dropped for 450 Heat 2. He was lined
up next to the points leader and was able to follow him into the first corner. Vince came out just outside the top 5, and was hoping to make it into quali- fying position. Unfortunately, he slipped back to 6th place and was forced to finish there. In the Semi, Vince was determined to get through to the Main as he pulled a commanding holeshot when the gate dropped. Vince went on to put on a clinic where he held off the likes of Reed, Grant, and Weimer to take the impressive Semi qualifier Win. In the Main, Vince got a good jump but was pinched off quickly by the other riders. He tip toed his way around the first corner and was running just inside the top ten early on. He was doing his best to maintain his position but many riders were challeng- ing him. By lap 5, he had slipped back to 12th and was continuing to lose track position. After another 5 laps, he was outside the top fifteen and doing everything he could to keep his composure. Vince fell victim to the Daytona track, as he eventually would finish in 19th position.
