>> Tallahassee, Florida native and full-time Florida State college boy, Joshua Cartwright not only impressed us with his life off the track but also started off the night with a bang as he came out of the first turn of the first heat race with the holeshot. The number 93 on the Yamaha fell back a few spots, but stayed persistent amongst stiff competition, choppy ruts, and gnarly beach sand sections and held onto a seventh place position, sending him straight to the main event.
After an exciting heat race performance, no one really knew
how Cartwright would do in the main. If there was one thing that we did know, it was that a good start was pivotal for stellar results in challeng- ing Daytona. Round Four was underway as the gates for the Main Event dropped. Unfortunately, amongst the top riders, Joshua wasn’t able to capture the same kind of start that he got in the heat earlier that evening. Cartwright quickly found himself in nineteenth place early on in the race, already a position better than the twentieth he got last weekend in the Great White North. He stayed consistent on the physically demanding track and was able to gain a position and finish the Main Event in eigh- teenth place. I think that the impressive start that Joshua Cartwright got in the heat race earlier in the evening is just a sneak peek of what he is capable of. Hopefully he can pull of more killer starts like that next week- end in Indianapolis.
