Ryder Ellis accumulated many podiums throughout the 2017 racing season in his home state of California. The youngster ended the year with a number one plate at the Ryan Villopoto Amateur Cup and he also earned a podium finish at the Cal Classic earlier in the year. Ellis proved himself
as a contender in the 51cc (4-8) class as well as the 51cc (7-8) class, cruising aboard his Cobra machine in practice. The Californian went on to impress the hometown crowd with two heat race victories, raising his confidence for the main events. In the first main, he encountered an unfortunate crash on the opening lap and battled back to fourth position after sitting in near- ly last place on the opening lap. In his final main event of the night, Ellis wasn’t going to be denied; the Californian charged back from a mediocre start and overtook first position af- ter a couple of hard laps, clinching the overall victory with conviction.
