THE MOTOPLAYGROUND RACE
at Ponca City
MIKAYLA NIELSEN >> 1
With this being a no questioned, mail dominated sport, from the outside looking in, it’s as though women’s competition could be put on the back burner. But with a flourishing division of young women on the rise throughout the rankings of amateur motocross, the female portion of this sport looks to be in solid hands. Mikayla Nielsen is on the frontier of pioneering this run, and looks to be soaring to new heights after her performance at the highly touted MotoPlayground Race at Ponca City. Coming into the first moto, every- one knew she would be a contender, but could she edge out the field in dominant fashion? She would reiterate that notion, blistering off the line and soaring out to an early lead, with Landrey Hazen of Michigan just behind. A nine second lead on lap two, would be turned into a thirteen second gap on lap three where she would set the fastest lap of the moto; a whopping two minute flat! These times were absolutely crazy, and it was all due to her line choice, charging antics, and profound marksmanship. The last lap, she would decide to back it down just a bit, declaring herself as victory, and ready to sew up a championship in the final moto. Nielsen would come back again to reclaim her title as queen, for the second moto. Once the moto’s inception had been cast, she’d stretched out
to an eight second lead by lap number two. Wheel tapping her way to an even faster laptime, the pole would be set on lap three, where she took a one minute fifty-four second laptime to the house. It was her lines throughout the sweeping corners that were so exceptional, where she would arc, and keep the throttle sound throughout the apex of the corner. Weighting the outside footpeg, her technique was on point for all parts of this track. She was truly on rails throughout this four-lap sprint, pushing the gap to a phenomenal seventeen-second lead by moto’s end! She would cross the line so excited and happy with her finish, with her team and supporting cast around her. She would deserve every bit of congratulations and accolades she would receive. The drive back
to Riverside would be one of glee and joy, with all in her camp so glad she could ride to her full potential. Congratulations Mikayla, we can’t wait to see how well you ride in the future, and look forward to having you back next year!
