>> Marco Cannella grabbed the holeshot ahead of the
KTM rider of Tanner Ward and fellow Yamaha rider Levi Newby. The top 3 didn’t make any significant changes over the course of the opening lap as Cannella tried his best to eek out an advantage over the rest of the group. The battle remained fairly stagnant for a couple of laps as the leaders settled into a pace. Cannella’s efforts paid off and he began to break away at the front momentarily, but the charging Yamaha rider of Carter Halpain was on a mission after start- ing just outside the top 5. He made move after move with each passing lap and found himself in 3rd position with a small gap behind the leader at the start of the white flag lap. The Texas native pushed the pace and worked his way past Tanner Ward almost immediately, switching his focus to the leader of Cannella. He caught up to the rear fender of his Yamaha teammate just after the whoops section. Halpain controlled the inside in the left hander before the Gizmo Mods tower and put a move on Cannella that forced him off the track and around the table top jump. Halpain secured the lead with only a couple of corners to go as he was able to upkeep his momentum from the supercross portion of the week and snag yet another victory. His late race charge is not to be discounted; not only did he make up multiple posi- tions on the last lap, Halpain set the fastest time of the entire race in doing so.
