>> Julien Beaumer took the holeshot on his 2017 Cobra machine, but his time at the front didn’t last long as Logan Best powered around the outside of him as they headed up toward the highest point of the track. Best immediately be- gan to gap the field, building 3.5 second lead over 2nd place at the beginning of the first flying lap. Haiden Deegan didn’t get the best start and was forced to make some moves on the opening lap; he was able to work his way into 2nd place around Julien Beaumer just before the finish line which put him in the position to track down Best. The battle for the lead was also the battle for the overall as the two riders at the front won their respective heat races. The North Carolina na- tive in the lead seemed to respond to the pressure by turning up the intensity at the head of the field, putting everything on the line in order to claim the championship. Dangerboy was taking unorthodox lines, putting his KTM everywhere that Best’s wasn’t in an attempt to make the move for the lead. The two riders were neck and neck coming into the second half of the lap and they passed each other back and forth from the whoops section onward. Deegan took the outside line before the Gizmo Mods tabletop and got the power down to the ground a little bit quicker in order to steal the lead with only two corners remaining. The 65cc warriors put on one
of the races of the weekend as Deegan barely eked out the overall ahead of his KTM comrade. Best would have to settle for 2nd overall with Beaumer taking 3rd.
