>> After an overall win at the last round at Washougal, the confident number
17 of Joey Savatgy lined up ready to take on The ‘Dilla. Savatgy showed true grit in New York this weekend. He was off to a decent start in the first moto after finding the second place spot behind Adam Cianciarulo in third. After a mistake resulting in a fall by Cianciarulo, Savatgy was able to pass the number 36 and move into the first place position. Lap after lap, the number 27 looked solid and soon had the checkered flag in his sights. The moment Savatgy crossed the finish line, his speed slowed down significantly, and he bent over to unbuckle
his right boot. Savatgy was then sighted heading straight to the medical crew with what seemed to be an injured ankle. Would Savatgy be able to race the second moto? Was his season over? Only time would tell and the time definitely became plentiful in New York after a torrential downpour of rain caused a rain delay. The rain soon subsided and the track was rideable after some mainte- nance. Spectators scanned the starting gate with curious eyes to see who would be lining up for this treacherous second moto. To everyone’s relief, Savatgy was okay and lined up for the second 250 race of the day. Would the Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki rider be able to ride to his full potential? The thirty-second card was high in the dark and stormy sky and soon the riders were off. Savatgy found himself in sixth place off the start, muddy water spewing from his rear tire. Joey Savatgy was fighting for as many positions as possible in the unfortunate weather conditions. By the end of the race, Savatgy was able to grab the fourth place spot, resulting in a second place overall for this Florida native.
