>> The moonshiner’s of the Appalachian’s made their way around these parts, years and years ago. Robberies, gun-fights, and trunks stocked to the brim with all kinds of illegal alcohol, put the aura of adrenaline and living on the edge to many of the residents in the area, at an especially young age. It was apparent when viewing the amount of buzz in the crowd, with many be- ing attracted to a rider they saw with that same, wild look and style that the majority of the bandits in the early years used to have; and that rider was Luke Renzland. Going half and half with VP and Apple moonshine in the tank of
the Yamaha 250 (kidding of course), the number 50 came across the line in 14th place, and looking to plow through the field for the remainder of the moto. Jousting near the tenth place position, it was if the real “5-0” were hot on his tail, sniffing the scent of the goods during the prohibition era; he was blazing
a trail like no other, fighting with Mitchell Harrison and Colt Nichols mid moto. The New Jersey native was forcing riders such as Kyle Cunningham and Steven Clarke to read “his jersey”, as he stormed off in the distance, skying over the triple step-on tabletop. His efforts would be rewarded with a twelfth. Time to line them up again boys! Luke Renzland shooting out of the hole like a scalded dog. The ever so tasty treat looming just in front of him? A lus-
cious top ten finish. Pinned around the left following the finish line, he simply chose a line through the next rhythm section, and clicked into the tallest gear he could find, bonza’ing down the straightaway as far as he could. He could lean the bike with precision in the following left, slightly whipping over the next tabletop, setting him for passes on riders like Jon Ames. Sticking near his av- erage time lap after lap, his pace was solid, yet just a tad off of those around him. With two factory heavy hitters, Justin Hill and RJ Hampshire just ahead, he would follow them in tow, taking 14th for the moto, and 13th overall.
