>> What a night for Seal Beach, California’s Zachary Commans. On a track as challenging as Seattle proved to be, going into your first heat with a very short practice session had to be nerve-wracking. Fortunately, the number 203 of Commans found himself on a somewhat smooth track in the first heat race of the night. Every lap proved to be more difficult as small boulders flew through the air and deep ruts started forming in the blink of an eye. Commans found himself crossing the finish line in 12th place, only 3 spots from transferring straight to the Main Event. After a result like that, the Rockwell / Nuclear Blast Records rider knew that he had what it took to get that Main Event ticket in the Last Chance Quali- fier. The 250 LCQ had immediate intensity and aggressiveness; which
is understandable with twenty-one riders and only four spots to fill. With high stakes, excitement is bound to happen. Right off the bat, Commans sat in fourth place and battles happening in all directions. After mistakes from other riders and a pass on Catanzaro, Zachary was able to grab third place, a comfortable spot to be in going into the Main Event. After a few riders ran into misfortune two laps into the Main, a red flag flew sending everyone back to the gates for a restart. With hearts still racing from the first gate drop, it was time to line up for another one. As soon as the thirty- second card was off the track, the riders were ricocheting into the first turn, trying to hug the inside while avoiding tough blocks so they could smoothly transition into the, one of many, difficult and rutted rhythm section. Zachary Commans sat in 18th place early, but at the seven-minute mark Catanzaro fell back and Commans was able to gain a spot, putting himself in 17th. With one lap to go, Chris Howell made a move and passed Commans. Zachary Commans soared past the checkered flag in 18th place. Com- mans wants it; he proved that in his great LCQ ride. Hopefully he can bring that passion with him to the next round in Utah.
