>> Kyle Chisholm opted to continue racing over the 250 West Coast series’ seven week break with his old pals in the 450 class. We’ve seen several racers do this over the years and it definitely has its benefits. You get to stay in race shape and stay in the rhythm you had going before the break. A lot of times the first race back from a long break in a series is almost like another season opener in the sense that everyone must see where they stack up against one another but for Chisholm it was just another Saturday night at the races.
Chisholm was probably missing that 450 power in practice because the track was so soft and deep. He still managed to throw down the thirteenth fastest qualifying time leaving him more than ready to compete in the night show. Chisholm got out to a dreadful start in his heat race rounding the opening lap in fifteenth place. He had a lot of work to do to secure a transfer spot but the track was very “passy” with all the different ruts and lines forming so he made it look easy. He snaked his way all the way up to sixth place in the short heat race making extra sure he got a transfer spot and was headed straight to the main event.
Chisholm got a much better start in the main event as this time he came out of lap one in tenth place. He passed Hansen for ninth on the second lap and then started logging clean laps, he slowly but surely inched up to Cole Martinez and made his move halfway through the race. Now up in eighth, he continued putting in good laps but he could not catch seventh place Hayden Mellross as he just ran out of time. The eighth-place finish was one of the best runs for Chisholm on the season and he will look to keep it going after the Easter break.
