Things got even worse as Canard passed Musquin for 8th shortly after, the two of them battling side by side up and down the hill sides of San Bernardino for nearly half a lap. Musquin made a massive mistake on the last lap, losing something like 30 seconds and giving Brock Tickle the 8th place
position, finishing the race in 9th. The second moto didn’t go any better for the 2015 Motocross des Nations winner, it was essentially the same issue that he had in the first moto encapsulated in one lap. He got a decent start and found himself in 7th place, but he got duffed up by one rider after another and eventually crossed the stripe in 13th place to start the second lap. He then lost that place to Cole Seely, but quickly made it up by getting around Darryn Durham on his 450 debut. Over the next couple laps, Musquin worked his way past fellow KTM riders, Justin Brayton and Benny Bloss, and then he rode a stagnated, lonely ride in 11th place until the checkered flag. Musquin ended up taking 9th overall with a 9 - 11 moto score on the day, but rider and team of his caliber will be concerned with the nature of those finishes.
