Things could not have gone any better for Joey Savatgy at Hangtown. He looked like a man on a mission from the very first practice session, laying down the fastest time of the day in
the 250 class with a 1:55.9. He brought the intensity from practice directly into the first race and pulled the holeshot ahead of Jordon Smith, the two of them immediately began to gauge the pace of one another as they gradually gapped Cooper Webb. Savatgy clocked metronomically consistent lap times wavering within tenths of one another and eventually began to build a moderately comfortable lead over the Geico Honda of Jordon Smith. Just as Savatgy set the fastest lap of the race and really began to settle into his groove, the clouds opened up and the track started to slicken up again. Not only had the track conditions worsened, he later stated in his post race interview that water had found it’s way between his tear offs as well. After a period of minor emergency in which Savatgy frantically ripped through his remaining tear offs, the rain began to subside and he was able to bring the Pro Circuit Kawasaki to the checkered flag first.
