Luke was ready to start his 2016 season off on a high note when practice began on Saturday morning in Northern California. Luke qualified inside the top 20 in practice and set his sights on the motos. When the races began, Luke got off to a decent start where he found himself just
outside of the top fifteen on the first lap. He quickly made his way into 15th position and set his focus on moving forward. Unfortunately, some mistakes would draw him back a bit as a few riders got by in the middle of the moto and he ended up 19th at the checkered flag. In Moto 2, Luke got a similar start and was running 9th place by the end of the 2nd lap. He was able to spark some motivation deep within and made a charge early. He sliced and diced his way into 16th place by the end of the third lap and was focused on improving his moto 1 result. Unfortunately in the next few laps, Renzland shuffled back a couple positions and was doing his best to hold on. With ten minutes to go Luke was again sitting in 19th place and seemed ready for the day to be over. He would go 19-19 for 20th overall at Hangtown.
