Thompson starts the main event in twelfth place and makes his way up one
spot by the fourth lap. As the race reaches the sixth lap, Thompson has clawed his way
to tenth, where he stays for several laps before sliding into ninth place in the tenth lap,
by this point he is working to catch up to Peters and Oldenburg. Ninth place would be where Thompson would stay, not quite catching the rider in eighth place before the checkered flag flew on the last lap.
