Although it has 147 ft-lbs of torque and presents 50 HP directly at the back wheel, the Redshift MXR is a whopping 259 pounds due to the weight of the battery. According to those who have ridden the bike, it’s easily to overlook the weight and not overly apparent when you’re riding it, but it’s something to consider. As far as the price range, it currently sits at $11,995 -- not anything too outlandish for a motorcycle in today’s nancial climate, especially considering the money that you’ll save by doing less maintenance over time.
One of the most glaring downsides to the bike at this stage is the battery life, but Alta has made some adjustments in their performance maps in order to t the rider’s personal preference. The bike offers four different modes: eco, sport, performance, and overclocked. Eco allows the rider to be able to cruise for up to four hours and is well suited to novice riders that are just starting out. Nonetheless, it’s still perfect for anyone that likes to go out and ride single-track, trails, or enduro. The sport mode produces a performance pro le that is engineered to match contemporary race machinery. The performance map is very similar to the sport map, but it offers a little bit more bottom end and traction -- making it great to use out of the gate. The overclocked map is kind of like the warp speed mode; maximum torque and power available, but also the lowest battery life as you’re only going to get less than thirty minutes of seat time before a recharge is nec- essary. Also, if the rider pushes too hard, there’s a thermal limiting system that will protect the machine from taking any damage. There’s de nitely no “blown engine protection” on any of the petrol bikes on the market these days. Welcome to the future!
