we went to all the nationals out there and all the Trans-AMA races, and
really got to see some of the greatest racing in history at that track. There’s two interviews -- if you interview Bob Hannah, he’ll talk about his race in St. Louis with DeCoster and if you talk to DeCoster he’ll talk about his race with Bob Hannah in St. Louis. It was one
of the classic battles where they were bangin’ into each other and smashin’ each other in every corner. It was one
of the classic races of ever and I was actually there, I was maybe fourteen years old at the time. Whenever I tell ‘em I’m from St. Louis, they end up tellin’ me the same story. I didn’t really realize how lucky I was to have a track in town and see all my heroes all the time, but
it was really special now that I’m old enough to realize how lucky I was. It was a twenty minute drive and we’d be at the national to watch all the super riders.
When you were growing up
riding, what were some of
the bikes that you had? Back then when you bought a bike you had to modify it -- you’d buy a bike for a thousand dollars and then you’d spend another twelve hundred dollars just to make it competitive. Then the next year came, you’d have to get rid of that bike and get a new bike, then modify it all over again where now you can have a bike that’s two or three years old and still be relatively competitive on it.
