It all started with a vision and a garage, just as a lot of inspirational motorcycle related stories do. Robert “Cycle Bob” Wid- strand founded Bob’s Cycle Supply way back in 1971, working long days in a garage until finally expanding to a small grocery store next door a couple of years later. He had an immense amount of passion for the sport of motocross, supporting the local racing community, being at the races, and helping the beginners take a step to the next level. At a time when it was rare to find more than just a display pair of boots on the shelves, Bob had a seemingly endless supply. At a time when the hottest motorcycling news was only attainable through monthly sub- scriptions to various magazines, Bob offered various copies of anything he could get his hands on. Bob’s Cycle Supply easily made its mark as one of the most iconic shops in Minnesota, but it’s safe to say that it’s also one of the most historically rich shops in all of the United States. Over forty years later, they still carry the same core values that made them so successful throughout the introductory stages of development -- filling their 8,000 sq ft. showroom with a whopping 2,500 pairs of motocross boots, 1,000 snow jackets, and so on. Since Bob’s passing in 2009, longtime employee and close family friend Scott Muellner has taken over at the helm as CEO, but the family-friendly environment still lives on through the employee owned business. We found some time to pick Scott’s brain about the many years that he has spent working at Bob’s Cycle Supply, how the business started, and what’s in store for the future. >>
