Christopher HARRIS
Christopher Harris was the class of the field in the 51cc (4-6) classes at The Motoplayground Race at Ponca City. The young Texan was building off of a third place finish at the Loretta Lynn’s Amateur National Championship -- and he undoubtedly picked up right where left off a couple of months ago in Tennessee. He never finished worse than second place throughout the entirety of the week- end in either 51cc (4-6) classes, capturing three second place finishes and a pivotal moto victory in the Special Limited class that earned him the championship. Harris experienced some nail biting battles with Colorado’s Gage Dunham in both motos, exchanging race wins with his fellow Cobra rider. In the opening 51cc (4-6) Special Limited moto, Harris put himself at a minor disadvantage at the start of the race, crossing the finish line for the first time in fourth position. Nonetheless, the Texan remained undeterred and charged forward, making his way to second position by the third lap of the race. At that point, he was determined to close the near five second gap to Dunham in the lead, and he brought it to within one second as the white flag was flown. Harris scored the fastest time of the entire moto on the penultimate lap, inching within half a second of the lead, but he wasn’t able to make the pass before the checkered flag and he settled for a brilliant second place finish that kept him directly in contention for the title. Harris experienced a complete replica of the first race at the start, finding himself back in fifth place on the opening lap. The youngster was able to learn from the first moto and used his superior pace to carve through the pack with ease, jumping up to second position in just one lap. The Cobra rider clung to the rear fender of Dunham at the halfway point and made his move into the lead just in time for the white flag, setting the fastest lap of the race in the process. At that point, he put the hammer down and stormed away to a three second victory, stamping his authority on the class with an impressive ride to the championship.
