>> Weston Peick rumbled into the first round of the AMA Mon- ster Energy Supercross series with a familiar team but an un- familiar machine. His AutoTrader/JGR team made the switch from Yamaha to Suzuki during the offseason so even though he had to get used to the new bike, he did not have to endure the growing pains of getting used to a new team. To the un- trained eye it may have been easy to assume Peick was strug- gling with the Suzuki after a fifteenth place qualifying effort but he was only 1.8 seconds off of the pole position in the very crowded 450 class. He looked prime to come out and perform well in the night show. He just missed out on a direct transfer to the main event by finishing fifth in his heat race but he was able to cruise through his semi to finish fourth and secure his spot in the main event. When the main event gate dropped for the first time of 2017, Peick got out to a decent start emerging from the pack in seventh after one. He would swap position with Seely and Anderson in the opening stages and hop back to eighth on lap three. From there Peick enjoyed a smooth, consistent race with the exception of a minor collision with veteran Chad Reed. Those consistent rides are usually hard
to come by for the South California Native so I’m sure he and his team were happy with it. He would ride it all the way home in that eighth position and kick start his season with a nice, comfortable performance.
