The EBR Yamaha rider out of Texas pulled the holeshot and left his fellow Texan behind from the drop of the gate. The track had gotten really rough by the end of
the day and it was very risky to push the pace in the choppy conditions. Halpain built a gap
that amounted to 10.3 seconds over Merrett by the time the checkered flag flew. Meanwhile, Blake Hansen put in another stellar charge through the pack after resurging from a 10th place start; this time he was able to work his way all the way up to 4th position, making a pass on the very last lap to complete his charge. Race Baker put his Honda on the final spot of the podium, but his 9th place finish in the first moto tainted his overall score.
