Despite a brilliant last lap effort, he wasn’t able to close the gap to the leader and had to settle for
2nd position behind McCarty. Payne put in a couple consistent laps to score the last spot on the podium, but the real story of the moto was the little Floridian, Seth Dennis. He found himself in 20th position after experiencing some issues on the opening lap of the race. Dennis set the pace of the leaders throughout the moto, forcing his way through the pack at will
and eventually stealing 7th position away from Gage Dunham on the very final lap. In order to have a shot at the overall, Dennis would have to win the second moto...and he did just that. He started at the front of the pack and never looked back, setting a fiery pace that only Carpenter could hang with. The two of them rode within a second of one another throughout the latter stages of the moto, but Carpenter wasn’t able to challenge for the lead. McCarty had a battle on the opening couple of laps with Cole Blecha, eventually making the pass stick on the 2nd lap and holding onto the final podium spot throughout the rest of the moto.
