MASON GONZALES SCHOOLBOY 1 (12-16) B/C
KILPATRICK
When the words “Schoolboy One”
are uttered, you can almost ac- company the phrase with a smell of premix, and a crisp bark like no other, something that can only be found in this respective division. Hence why the fences are always backed, giving riders like Mason Gonzales even more of an energy boost, pushing him to hang it out in front of the sold- out crowd. He would do just that, as the first moto offered a platform of everyone sorting themselves out. Al- though there was no guessing on his part, he immediately pushed to the front, skimming the tops of the Ten Commandments at times, and then being absolutely on rails through the following series of switchbacks. He had to do this each and every lap, in order to pull a lead over Jalek Swoll in second; and it would work, as the sheet would display a 22 second lead by lap the conclusion, as he took the moto win. The following race saw his Florida counterpart, Swoll, taking an early lead on the field, with Gonzales in tow. Mason knew he couldn’t let Jalek out of sight, so he did every- thing in his power to mimic the line selection of the Husqvarna rider. It would work, the gap reaching it’s highest point on lap eight, of a mere five seconds, and Gonzales crossing the finish just behind Jalek; the battle was on for the third moto. It was now time for the final dual, as Gonzales was literally attached to the hip of the number 30 throughout the opening sequences. He was not going to let go of that jersey, doing everything necessary to stay within grasp. Time was ticking away, but Mason stayed tucked in tight; until the unthinkable happened, the bike of Swoll began to slow down, and eventually coming to a stop. Meanwhile, Mason inherited the position, and the excitement level began to rise. Beating Swoll meant securing the title, and in the final corner, a look back reassured that he had done it. Moving into first, claiming the victory, sewing up the title; he couldn’t ask for a better run. Great job young man.
