ENZO LOPES
Enzo Lopes was clearly one of the fastest riders in the A class throughout the end
of the 2017 season and onward. The Brazilian native was one of the only riders capable of challenging Justin Cooper
at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch in August and
he started the new year with a plethora
of podium finishes in the A class. Lopes earned some heavy hardware at Spring A Ding Ding as well as the JS7 Freestone Spring Championship and was touted as one of the favorites to come out on top
at the 2018 FMF California Classic. He was able to put it together at Pala in the 250 Pro class and he earned the num- ber one plate in the 250 Pro division, in addition to his second place result in the 450 Pro class. Lopes only won a single race throughout the entire weekend, but his consistent results placed him on top
at the end of the day and his fiery pace throughout his amateur career earned him a call-up to the JGR Suzuki team for the 2018 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross season. It will be challenging to switch brands only
a couple weeks away from his pro debut at Hangtown, but someone as determined and driven as Lopes will make the most of the opportunity and come out swinging at the Lucas Oil Pro season opener.
CARSON
MUMFORD
Carson Mumford bounced back after
a rough week at Freestone but he managed to return to winning ways at the 2018 FMF California Classic. The AMSOIL Factory Connection backed Honda rider has showed intermittent speed in the B class throughout the introductory months to the new racing season, but he hasn’t quite been able to reestablish the electrifying pace he showed in the mini ranks. Nonetheless, Mumford was on fire in his home state of California as he tore up the various B classes that he entered, winning a total of four motos and finishing on the podium in every individual race barring two. The Team Dunlop alum landed on top of the overall podium in both 250
B Limited and 450 B Limited due to an exceptional rate of consistency in both classes. He would have done the same in 250 B, but a sixth place finish in the opening moto damaged his eventual overall result and he had to settle for second position. Mumford has fought the injury bug in recent years and it seems that he’s finally getting back to his full potential -- a scary thought for the rest of the competition in 2018.
