As Saturday began, things got escalated quickly with both Tomac and Roczen jumping of the line with ease, with Kenny holding onto 1st and Tomac in 3rd by the time the lead group reached LaRocco’s leap. In
the early minutes, with Roczen gapping out front, Tomac began to get frustrated as a result of following Bam-Bam Barcia in
2nd. Unable to avoid the small hiccups that torture the majority of racers, Tomac remained behind Barcia for a large portion of the first half of the race. In the process, Tomac was briefly challenged by the #20 of Broc Tickle but was able to harness the motivation to get around Barcia by hauling on the outside around the switchbacks in the trees, subse- quently leaving the JGR Yamaha in his wake.
