As the day got under way, Mitchell looked fantastic heading into the first turn of moto one. #289 rocketed off to a 3rd place start. In an effort to prove that rookies are unwilling to move aside, the Star Racing Yamaha held the podium position behind fellow rookie Austin Forkner and class contender Cooper Webb before dropping to 4th behind Joey Savatgy. Then, as the race got off its feet, Harrison fell
victim to his teammates, Plessinger and the Martin brothers, to fall to 7th. As the race was reaching the halfway point, Harrison hit a rough patch dropping to the like of Ciancurulo. Oldenburg and Osborne before he settled in 11th. Before long, Davalos gets by, then McElrath and Tonus, to push Mitchell to 14th for the home stretch of moto one. Capitalizing on late mistakes of Davalos, Harrison made his way up two spots to 12th where he would be able to coast to the checkers. Taking the strong finish back to the starting line for moto two, Harrison used the same technique to begin the race inside the top ten in 8th before dropping a few spots early on.
