Benny was looking very fast in practice in Michigan. He posted some quick times early and ended up with 14th gate pick going into the races. In 450 moto one, Benny didn’t get the best jump off the gate and found himself running just inside the top twenty on the first lap. He started making up positions quickly and was sitting in 14th place with twenty minutes left on the clock. With about halfway to go, Benny had climbed to
13th and was creeping up on Justin Bogle. Both Bogle and Benny were able to pass Noren and were now sitting 11th and 12th, respectively. They then made up another position as a rider in front of them went down. Benny was able to match his best finish of the year with an 11th and looked to improve in the next gate drop. When the next moto began, Benny got a similar start and was running just inside the top twenty early on. He began to make some moves and made a steady charge for most of the moto. Around the halfway point, Benny had climbed up to a very impressive 12th place and it seemed that this moto could be the best of his career. He continued to charge and passed another rider with only a few laps left. Then, Benny was able to take advantage of another rider’s mistake and slipped into the 10th position by the time the checkers flew. His 10th overall at Redbud is his best finish of the young rookie’s career.
