The prayers were answered for the Rock River team, as Colt managed to squeeze a start inside the top 15 to begin the first moto. There was a certain bond between the Sooner and the number 14, as he remained here for the longevity of the race. His notorious charismatic style was pacing the racetrack from side to side, swooping from left to right. With the leg dangling with every portion of airtime, Colt crossed the line with 14th place and positive attitude for the events to come. Yet again, the OSU Cowboy found himself in 14th for the beginning of the moto two. Each lap the young man executed the roller section with immense precision, floating on the sand, trying his best to leave as little imprint as possible. Lugging the bike a gear tall, he would attempt to save both motor and chassis from immense fatigue, delicately making his move amongst both every downhill and off camber. Battling with the likes of Cunningham, Oldenburg, and Rodriguez, Nichols would hold his own. With the track continuing to roughen up with every lasting second of competition, Colt still displayed that oozing flare that could catch any fans attention in attendance. He would go on to finish 16th, for 16th overall.
