SHANE MCELRATH
Shane McElrath took a slightly different approach on his journey to become a professional motocross racer. He was a late bloomer when it came to racing and didn’t hit his stride until he was eighteen years old. He was relatively unknown as an amateur until appeared out of the woodworks at Loretta Lynn’s in 2012. He won motos against the likes of amateur stars Cooper Webb and Matt Bisceglia. He certainly caught the eye of the amateur world and that helped gain some help for 2013 amateur title runs and
then a professional ride with the Red Bull KTM Troy Lee Designs Team in 2014. He credits his success to his training at Club MX. He said the program down there really helped bring out the best in him and it is certainly paying off now. He hasn’t nailed any wins as a pro but he is one of those guys that are right on the cusp. He is always getting solid starts that put him in position to succeed. He had a solid supercross season this year finishing third or fourth in the final five rounds and has had some solid motos to begin the year outdoors. He’s a consistent top ten guy when he grabs a start and has the ability to knock on the door of the top five.
