Marvin Musquin struggled all day on a track where the key to going fast was consistency above
all else. The track conditions would normally favor the crafty riding style of the Frenchman, but Musquin made quite a few mistakes on the day and appeared to be riding on the edge more than
he’s typically does. This was a track that couldn’t be overridden and Musquin did his best to keep everything in check, he ended up qualifying in 12th place, approximately 3 seconds behind the times at the top. Musquin put his Red Bull KTM in perfect position
out of the gate in his heat race, grabbing the holeshot and immediately being launched into a battle with his training partner, Jason Anderson. El Hombre is one of the most aggressive riders out there today, but he was able to find a way to put a rather clean block pass on Musquin on the first lap to take over the lead. This opened the door for Justin Bogle to jump by after Musquin’s rhythm was disrupted. From that point on in the race, Musquin did well to hold on to the final podium spot, but eventually a charging Trey Canard nabbed 3rd place from Musquin and relegated him to 4th in the final transfer spot. Musquin got a decent start in the main event, but he was caught up in the mayhem in the middle of the field and he struggled to match the intensity of those around him on the opening lap. He was also struggling with the first whoop section all day. On the first lap of the main event, he attempted to take the inside line before the whoops and lost traction, therefore losing out to a couple of Hondas. In the middle of the race, Musquin found himself in a battle with the another Honda of Cole Seely. The two of them rubbed plastics coming back onto the start straight after the finish line and Seely forced Musquin into a mistake in the following rhythm lane which almost sent the KTM rider over the bars. Temporarily, Musquin dropped back to 12th, but he was able to carve his way up through a couple of riders and finish the race in 10th place after battling with Chad Reed, Josh Grant, and Justin Brayton.
