Daxton Bennick proved on Sunday, in the qualifiers, that the #241 machine was going to be hunting in two of the 65cc main events the following day. The ten-year-old KTM rider from North Carolina finished the qualifiers with an outstanding two top-5 finishes: 2nd
in the 7-9 group and a 5th in the larger 7-11 grouping. Daxton was in 4th for a majority of the 7-11 Heat #1 race, falling to 6th late and securing 5th on the last lap. When Monday morning came, Bennick had his older class up first for moto number 12 of the day that saw an impressive ride from the Thor, Dunlop and Alpinestars backed young gun. Somewhat similar to the Heat race, Daxton maintained 5th early on. Lap four saw Bennick move up to 4th, but the movement was short-lived. On lap number 6th, Bennick got caught-up in the lappers and faded back, ultimately finishing with a 7th out of 33 riders. A tough outcome to a solid ride, Bennick headed back to the rig as he now had
22 races to wait until his next Main’s gate dropped. As the day winded down after a respectable start to Main Event Monday, Daxton showed his sound warm-up routine works, coming out of the gate in the 7-9 class rounding out the top 3 for the first couple laps. On lap 3, Bennick made his move into 2nd behind Aidan Dickens, passing Jordan Renfro. For the remaining 4 laps, Bennick and Dickens battled it out with Daxton getting fastest lap honors on lap 4 with a 1:07.833 posted. Even though Bennick is somewhat the elder of this 7-9 class, clearly he demonstrated how he’s found his form aboard the KTM 65cc monster mini-bike and also verified himself as the top contender he’s aiming to be. With the 2016 RCSX in the books, Daxton and the Orange Brigade have a promising season ahead of them.
