I’ll be honest, before this weekend I wasn’t quite sure what results the youthful Mr. Reynolds would earn. Yeah sure, he’s got an impressive resume; I mean, of course, most Team Green riders do, right? After Sunday, though, the world and I had a better idea of the #79 Kawasaki rider’s potential as he posted
impressive 1st and 2nd place finishes in his 9-11 and 9-12 85cc classes, respectively. In fact, Jett rode so well that even though he didn’t win both races, he did put up the fastest in each of his qualifiers. Still some work to do for the youngster, but I’m sure Jett rested easy heading into Monday’s finals. The reason I say this is that luckily for Jett and his family, both of his classes’ mains were in the first half of the day, allowing Jett to get down to business early. Actually, Jett’s first race, the 85cc 9-12 group were 2nd to see the track. Cut and dry, Jett pulled the lead early on lap 1, gapped the only rider to keep Reynolds in his sights, Nicholas Romano, by 6 seconds and cruised to a commanding victory. With style and “steeze”, Mr. Reynolds ran away with his first ever RCSX championship in the 9-12 division. Bravo, good sir. After a short rest, a couple bottles of water, a Gatorade and granola bar, the Champ headed into Main Event number 2 of the day. For this race, Reynolds had to keep the game-face tight, while every other rider set their sights on the #79, he was forced to defend his 2015 9 through 11 years-old reign. As the 15 second board turned sideways, Jett boosted off over the gate to another elite start. Reynolds picked up right where he left off too, pulling away early and earning a 3 second gap after the first lap. I might not have been sure of Reynolds racing coming into the event, but as if he was telling me loud and clear, he rode 6 more impeccable laps finishing in 1st, earning his second championship of the day. A strong ride from young Matthew Leblanc saw him inching closer to Reynolds near the end of the race, finishing second and a distant 6 seconds back. Now a four-time RCSX champ, and two-time 9-11 champ, Jett Reynolds is the real deal and should have officially earned a spot on everyone’s radar.
SIDENOTE: He was listed as being a racer in the 65cc 7-11 class, yet didn’t seem to participate solely focusing on the two 85cc classes.
