classes again this year, he knew he would be a true contender as the gate would be ready to fall. With a second place in his opening heat of 450 C, he felt a bit more at home on the 250f machine, on the tight confines of this SX track. Keeping it pinned throughout the entire circuit, his first win of the week would be granted, and he would have a surge of momentum as the main event would roll around. And although experiencing a little bit of trouble, he would then eye the motocross course and sector of the event as a clean slate, and place where he could really inscribe his name in the record books. Starting off near the top three for his first showing
of 250 C, he looked to be a true factor from the get go. Whipping the bike to the right over the grandstand jump, a subtle look over to the fans would indicate just who they thought was going to be
a serious contender, come time for the final moto. Placing third
in the first moto, he would then mount a superb effort aboard the 450. Leading as the checkered flag began to wave, he would soar out of the valley, taking the win and boost of encouragement. He would hold strong with his previously implanted scores, taking a third in the 250 C class, strong enough for third overall. It would all boil down to his final moto of 450 C, where he would loom near the podium for entire moto. Trying to dodge the pellets and ricochet of roost of the likes of opposing machines, he would taste the podium finish with one lap to go. Salivating at the thought of another awe- some overall score, he would finish second overall, solidifying his claim on the event
ZANE MERRETT
If you’ve followed the Texas motocross scene for any portion of time, you’ve surely seen or heard about the number 29 of Zane Merrett. A definite player and in contention for the vast majority of his amateur career, he’s now on the cusp of professionalism and is hoping to make a statement prior to his departure of the tour. Being a native of the amateur national’s for numerous years, he knew exactly what to expect upon arrival of the Winter Olympics. A hard-packed square edge SX course, that may have the ability to roughen up with ruts as the week progresses. It could be tight as well, so passing would have to be an imminent factor in his pre- race training. The motocross track was rather wide open, and he
couldn’t fear launching into the valleys of the Gator Pit. Knowing all of this, he would lock and load his holeshot device, ready to sling- shot the field for his opening moto. With the number 29 engraved on the side of his KTM machine, he would take off for each A class respectively, looking to churn out some noticeable performances. With two eights to begin the SX festivities, he would reiterate his preconceived notions with noteworthy performances in the second moto. A tenth overall in the 250 Pro Sport class, would be bested by the time the gate would fall for 450 A. Piecing together a solid overall an eight-nine score, would place him in ninth overall at
the race’s conclusion. It was on the motocross course, that the number 29 would flourish. Spiking his laptimes amongst the midst of the leaders, a seventh to begin his 250 Pro Sport reign would put him in a promising spot for a smooth foundation of results. Backing it up with a sixth in 250 A, his best result thus far would be with a second in the 450 A group. As the field would converge for their final few outings, Zane would up the ante, battling with the likes of the best in the division. Strong finishes of sixth and sixth, would take him to sixth overall to signify the beginning of the end. A third in 250 Sport, would be highlighted by a spectacular second place finish in the second moto. And finishing in the runner-up overall position, he would go on to take his best showing in 450
A, amongst some of the hottest prospects from around the globe.
