Settling into his new role in style, E. Rutherford appeared
to have been a night of luck for the flashy Yamaha of Reed, with consistent starts throughout the night. Things for the Aussie started quickly with a holeshot in the heat race to get the round
started on the right foot. Dungey doubled into the first rhythm while Reed rolled the first lip, though, allowing the #1 KTM into the lead before Chad could race to turn two. In the process, Trey Canard ran it in hot , passing Reed and creating a battle over the next section that would see Reed make his way back into 2nd coming out of turn three. Less than a half lap into the heat and things were already beginning to boil.
