Nick Wey has been enjoying himself since returning to the intense world of professional Supercross
and was happy to soak up the vibes in the Big Apple. He still had to go out there and race and he got
that going with a respectable twentieth fastest qualifying time showing the young guns he’s still got it.
Wey got a subpar start in his heat race coming through the field dead in the middle in eleventh place. From there on out Wey was just trying to better his gate position for the semi and he actually scooped up two more positions and worked his way into ninth place by the end of the race. He was in no mans land in the heat and was ready for a fresh start in the semi. The semi went nearly the same as the heat did for Wey. He got an average start, this time in seventh and just settled in. He was by himself once again but actually made ground on Bloss at the end of the race. He couldn’t get close enough and ran out of time as well which meant it was time for the LCQ.
Another disappointing start in the LCQ for Wey forcing him to go all out if he wanted to be in the main event in front of the New Jersey fans. He started sixth and moved into fifth with two to go and set his sights on Cade Clason. With a lap to go he had made up the ground and race was on for the final transfer spot. Wey stalked him but was unable to get close enough for a pass until the final corner. He set Clason up cutting all the way across the turn and blasted Clason into the tuff blocks and flying off the track. It was an ultra aggressive move but anything goes when it comes to the final transfer spot in the LCQ.
Wey accomplished his goal of making the main and went out and had a good time. He started around twenty-first and stayed there for the entire race. He would end up twentieth for the night after qualifying in such dramatic fashion. It was his worst finish of the year but bad starts were a huge role in that. Wey will be aiming to bust out a top fifteen next weekend in Las Vegas to end his year with a bang.
