>> The strongest of pressures can cut even the most solid diamond, into an eye-catching relic. It takes excruciating amounts of force to mold and slice, however, once applied correctly, the end result is something that can’t be replicated. It’s the same way when viewing the national series, from the outside looking in. Beyond what many can imagine, the amount of work that is put in to garner a respectable finish in this series is absurd, and anyone who does should be applauded in the most gracious form. Marvin Musquin is no exception, as the work he’s put in allows him to have solid results, wherever he chooses to line up around the globe. Moto number one was
no different, as a solid start and quick-witted moves pushed him to the front of the field. Soaring through the downhill finish line section, he was on the gas much longer than anyone else heading into the following bend. Each lap digging as he went through the mechanics area, his 450’s transmission could not shift through the gearbox any faster; he was well on his way to a solid ride, battling with the likes of Eli Tomac and Blake Baggett, as Herlings seemed to begin to walk away. Circling the number 3 as the biggest prior- ity in the pre-race memo, there was no way he could put the championship the way he truly wanted, but he could always give his best effort. And that he did, moving into second, with his fellow Orange Brigade members sur- rounding him, he would go on for the runner-up ride. The second moto saw Musquin push into the lead in the early going, looking to separate the points gap as much as he could, with Tomac seeming to ride very comfortably. He would hold his own out front, looking to take the win, when a quick mistake forced the number 784 around, and pushed Marvin back to second. Disap- pointed with the overall outcome of the series and Ironman score, he knew a second for either was nothing to be down about. He would be back next year.
