>> Wyatt Thurman had an exceptional week of racing down at the 2017 JS7 Freestone Spring Championship. The Temecula, California native made the trip all the way from the west coast down to Freestone County Raceway in pursuit of some high class hardware. Thurman entered the 51cc (6-7) Limited Class as well as the 51cc (4-6) Limited Class. He was able to put his #247 Corba machine on the top step of the podium in both motos of the (4-6) Lim- ited class on his way to a dominant overall victory. The California kid threw the hammer down in the opening moto as he jumped out to an early lead ahead of Colorado’s Gage Dunham, incessantly building a gap over the rider in second place. Thurman set a fiery pace from the front of the field and consistently built an advantage over Dunham, stretching out a couple of seconds per lap. Thur- man threw down the fastest lap of the moto by a long shot on the penultimate opportunity, cementing his advantage over Dunham as he eventually cruised to a victory of approximately forty-five seconds. The second moto produced
a closer battle between the usual suspects from the first affair; Thurman shot out to a likely advantage ahead of Dunham and the two of them duked it from the gate drop. It was practically a carbon copy from the first moto as Thurman took advantage of an early mistake from Dunham in order to secure the lead. From that point onward, the Californian was able to maintain his advantage by putting in consistent, calculated laps. The gap between first and second began to shrink throughout the midpoint of the race, but Thurman remained deter- mined and put in a gritty performance by setting the fastest lap of the moto on the final lap in order to secure the victory. He ended up greeting the checkered flag with a gap of approximately twenty seconds to Dunham, therefore fasten- ing his grip on the number one plate.
