>> Carter Halpain was coming into the 2017 JS7 Freestone Spring Champion- ship on a wave of momentum after displaying some impressive speed at the Daytona RCSX just a couple of weeks ago. The Texas native was motivated heading back into his home state as he looked to grab another number one
plate for his mantle. He raced four separate classes in their entirety, scoring two victories and four podium finishes. Halpain fought his way to second overall in
an incredibly competitive Schoolboy 2 class, but the highlight of his week came
in the 450 B Limited class as he dominated the competition with a pair of uncon- tested moto victories. He was feeling the flow on his 450 as he ripped through his home soil down the start straight and took a holeshot in the opening moto, setting himself up for a flawless victory. The Texas native utilized the clear track ahead
of him and progressively improved his lap times throughout the race, taking advantage of the freshly prepped track to lay down some smooth laps. Halpain upped the pace on the fourth lap as he set one of the fastest lap times of the day. At that point, he had accumulated an insurmountable gap back to Derek Drake
in second position and he did his best to keep his composure and cruise to the finish line with an advantage of more than ten seconds. The second gate drop produced similar results for the EBR backed Altus Motorsports Yamaha rider as he put all of the power down and fought his way to an uncontested holeshot. He wasn’t going to be denied a number one plate as he commanded the race from the front of the field, setting the fastest laptime of the moto on the first flying lap. Halpain reeled off a couple more blindingly fast lap times in order to accumulate a comfortable gap back to second place, eventually backing it down in the latter stages of the moto. The Texan did his home state proud as he soared over the finish line jump and sealed the overall victory with an enthusiastic fist pump to cap off an incredible run of form throughout the spring nationals.
