PALM BEACH, Fla. - Police are calling
a Florida lawn care worker a hero after saving a man's life despite allegedly being yelled at by homeowners to do it somewhere else.
Tony was walking to work when he saw a man in a car having a seri- ous seizure on Monday in Palm Beach County.
Without thinking, he ran up to the rolling car and grabbed the fender to try and stop it from
rolling down the street further. It ran over Tony’s foot, but thankful- ly he had steel- toed boots on.
The car finally stopped on a lawn, but the win- dows were up and the doors locked. The driv- er was convuls- ing and was in terrible shape, according to the sheriff's office.
Tony screamed for help, asking and begging for someone to help. The owners of the house where the car stopped allegedly yelled, "Get off our lawn" and "Get the man out of here. Have
him die some- where else."
Tony quickly real- ized he knew where the injured man lived. He ran down the street to their house, was able to get his wife, and they called 911.
The man called the Palm Beach Sheriff's Office to ask for Tony’s phone number. The man said, "I want to talk to Tony. He saved my life."
Wednesday, the grateful man and his wife went and found Tony, and gave him a hug.
US$19,000 House Plant
In August 2020 records were smashed when a var- iegated minima sold for $5,300, however in June 2021 all records were smashed again.
An online bidding war erupt- ed again in New Zealand, resulting in this house plant selling for NZ$27,000 or US$19,000.
The plant is the extremely rare white
variegated rhaphidophora tetrasperma or known as “mini monstera”. With only 4 minutes to go, bidding on the NZ
website Trademe escalated between bidder
“foliage_patch” and, the eventual winner “meridian- lamb”. A total of 248 bids were received.
Trade Me auction site spokesperson Millie Silvester, said “The rare plant had over 102,000 views and more than 1600 watch lists, which just goes to show how much Kiwis adore house plants”.
The description of the plant, provided by the seller reads, “This plant has eight leaves with the ninth just about to uncurl. Each leaf has excel- lent variegation as does the stem and is well rooted in a 14cm pot”.
