Several Belmont Businesses Close For COVID-19 Cleaning Following Ivanka Trump’s Visit
BELMONT, N.C. — Several local businesses have closed their doors to disinfect for the possibility of COVID-19 follow- ing Ivanka Trump’s visit to the Charlotte area on Thursday.
The closures come hours after her father President Donald Trump revealed that he and First Lady Melania Trump tested positive for the virus and one day after she visited three businesses in downtown Belmont run by
Holy Angels, a nonprofit organi- zation that pro- vides full-time care for children and adults with disabilities.
Ivanka Trump was tested for COVID-19 Friday morning and does not have the virus, officials said. But Holy Angels posted on its Facebook Friday that Cherubs Café, Cotton Candy Factory and Bliss Gallery on North Main Street will all be closed for deep cleaning as a precaution.
They are expect- ed to reopen Saturday.
“While our proto- cols have always exceeded the CDC Guidelines, we want to ensure the safety of our employees and customers,” the post read. “Please know that it is not required for us to close and conduct this deep cleaning. However, at Holy Angels, we take these things seri- ously. When we reopen on Saturday, rest assured that we
have done our very best to pro- tect our loyal cus- tomers and our dedicated employees.”
Holy Angels' restaurant in McAdenville, Spruced Goose Station fresh eats & treats, will remain open as usual.
Ivanka Trump was in the Charlotte area to speak with the Trump 2020 sen- ior advisor for Strategic Communications and supporters about President Donald Trump’s “America First” agenda.
She also visited visited Webb Custom Kitchen in Gastonia.
The owner Jim Moraso said she sat on the bal- cony with her son and no one else was close to them. He told Channel 9′s Ken Lemon that she
also kept her mask on.
“She was the epitome of CDC guidelines,” he said.
Dallas farmer William Rhyne said Ivanka visit- ed his farm Thursday and used his barn venue for a con- versation with dozens in atten- dance.
Rhyne spoke to her face to face before the event. He said both were wearing masks as he handed her a buckeye.
“I said, ‘I want you to give this to the president.’ She said ‘What is it?’ I said ‘It’s a good luck charm.’”
After the event he said Ivanka took group pictures with everyone there. He said he took a picture with her and nei- ther of them wore
masks.
“I stood directly beside of her,” he said.
Lemon asked the 87-year-old if he thinks differently about his interac- tion with Ivanka after finding out that the president has COVID-19.
“If I knew that she had it when she came here, I would have done the same thing I did yesterday,” Rhyne said.
He told Lemon then he’s not wor- ried about his health.
The Gaston County Health Department told Channel 9 no one that had close contact with Ivanka Trump has tested positive. Officials said close contact is defined as being within 6 feet of someone for 15 minutes.
