'Seductive' Dress Gets Girl Barred From Chess Tournament
By Victoria Brown
PETALING JAYA: A 12-year-old girl was forced to withdraw from a chess cham- pionship for wearing a dress that was allegedly deemed "seductive" by the organisers of the National Scholastic Chess Championship 2017 on April 14 in Putrajaya.
Malaysian chess player and coach Kaushal Khandhar said that the girl, who is his student and a school chess champion of her dis- trict in Kuala Lumpur, felt "harassed and humiliated" by the actions of the tour- nament director and chief arbiter.
"In the middle of Round 2, without stopping the clocks, the chief arbiter informed my student that the dress she
wore was improper," said Kaushal in a Facebook post on Thursday night.
He said that the chief arbiter told the girl and her mother that the tournament director deemed that his student's dress was "seduc- tive" and a "tempta- tion from a certain angle far, far away."
Kaushal said the statement by the tournament director was "completely out of line" and "ridicu- lous".
He added that the chief arbiter conced- ed and apologised to the girl after a discussion and assured her that there was nothing wrong with her attire. However, the chief arbiter said that she was not allowed to wear the dress due to the directive from the tournament's direc- tor.
Kaushal said the girl and her mother were given the option to go to a nearby mall to pur- chase slacks for the next round of the tournament which began at 9am the following day.
However, the shops in the area were closed and would not be open in time for the next round of the tournament.
Kaushal said the girl's mother called the tournament director regarding the matter before the next round began. The tourna- ment director prom- ised to call her back after a discussion with the chief arbiter, but that this did not happen, he said.

Having lost most of his hearing a num- ber of years ago, this elderly man goes to the doctor to be fit- ted with hearing aids which promise to allow him to hear 100%.
A month later, he returns to the doctor for a check up on his progress. The doctor tells him that his hearing is perfect and asks if his family is pleased.
The man says, "Oh, I haven't told them about the hearing aids yet. I just sit around and listen to them talk. I've changed my will three times!"
There are three kinds of men in this world...
Some remain single and make wonders happen.
Some have girl- friends and see won- ders happen.
The rest get married and wonder what happened???
Kyle and Justin were about to eat with their babysitter when 6-year-old Kyle said, "You can't sit in Daddy's seat!"
"Daddy's not home," the babysitter replied. "Since I'm responsible for you while he's gone, I can sit here. Today, I'm the boss."
Justin, the 4 year old, quickly piped up, "If you're the boss,
you sit over there in Mommy's chair!"
When a customer left his cell phone in my store, I scrolled through his saved numbers, stopped at "Mom" and pushed send. His mother answered, and I told her what happened.
"Don't worry," she said, "I'll take care of it."
A few minutes later, the cell phone rang. It was "Mom."
"Martin," she said, "you left your cell phone at the con- venience store."
Rhonda’s dishwash- er quit working so she called a repair- man. Since she had to go to work the next day, she told the repairman, “I’ll leave the key under the mat. Fix the dish- washer, leave the bill on the counter, and I’ll mail you a check. Oh, by the way don’t worry about my bull- dog. He won’t bother you. But, whatever you do, do NOT, under ANY circum- stances, talk to my parrot! I REPEAT, DO NOT TALK TO MY PARROT!!!”
When the repairman arrived at Wanda’s apartment the follow- ing day, he discov- ered the biggest, meanest looking bulldog he has ever seen. But, just as she had said, the dog just lay there on the carpet watching the repairman go about his work.
The parrot, however, drove him nuts the whole time with his incessant yelling and name calling. Finally the repairman could- n’t contain himself any longer and yelled, “Shut up, you stupid ugly bird!”
To which the parrot replied, “Get him, Spike!”
A student in chem- istry class was instructed to create a new substance by mixing some special ingredient with water. But the student chose the wrong ingredient and the teacher realized mix- ing it with water would create an explosion.
He stopped the stu- dent and asked him to first stir the water in the bucket for five minutes before adding the ingredi- ent. The student wanted to know what that would accom- plish.
The teacher answered, "It will give me time to get away."
The math teacher saw that Daphne wasn't paying atten- tion in class.
She called on her and said, "Daphne! What are 2 and 4, and 28 and 44?"
Daphne quickly replied, "ABC, CBS, HBO and the Cartoon Network!"
