Mayer Wienermobile Takes Flight As A Drone
By Joey Skladany
An Oscar Mayer drone? When pigs fly! Well, now they’re flying—quite literally—in the form of hot dogs with the meat and cold cut company’s latest vehicle: the WienerDrone.
In tandem with the also new and also hilarious WienerCycl e, the dynamic duo will join forces with the iconic Wienermobile to visit Weiner, Arkansas for an assumedly grill- heavy 4th of
July celebration. The pit stop is to highlight Oscar Meyer’s decision to
remove all added nitrates, nitrites, and artificial preserva- tives from its line of hot dogs.
“As the most iconic brand, we’re going where other hot dogs can’t. We’re committed to getting our new hot dog in everyone’s hands – and we knew that was a job for more than just our iconic Wienermobile,” Gred Guidott, Oscar Mayer’s head of marketing, said in a release. “We’ve expanded our Oscar Mayer fleet, ensur- ing every American can taste the new recipe, because we believe everyone
deserves a better hot dog.”
The impressive dog can fly up to 1,500 feet at speeds of 50 miles per hour, join- ing a fleet of other tech-focused cre- ations like the WienerMini (a Mini Cooper) and WienerRover (yes, like the ones you see on Mars). Frank-ly, we’d like to see a WienerBoat or WienerJet as part of their future pro- motion because if any business can do it, it’s Oscar Mayer. And why? Because they have a way with so much more than B-O-L-O- G-N-A.
Elderly Passenger Chucks
Coins Into Plane's Engine
For Luck, Causes 5-hr Delay
SHANGHAI: A superstitious pas- senger delayed a flight from Shanghai for several hours on Tuesday (Jun 27) after throwing coins at the plane's engine for good luck, Chinese officials said.
The elderly woman was detained by police at Shanghai Pudong International Airport following the bizarre incident, forcing nearly 150 passengers to be evacuated from the plane bound for Guangzhou in south- ern China and caus- ing a five-hour delay.
The 80-year-old threw nine coins at an engine of China Southern Airlines flight CZ380 as she was boarding on the tarmac.
Eight of the coins missed their target but one nestled inside an engine, airport police said, adding that a pas- senger spotted her and reported it to authorities.
The woman, sur- named Qiu, was travelling with her
husband, daughter and son-in-law, reports said.
"A senior passenger threw coins to the plane's engine and delayed the flight. The passenger involved has been taken away by police," China Southern Airlines said in a statement on its Twitter-like Weibo account.
"In order to make sure the flight is safe, China Southern mainte- nance has conduct- ed a full exam of the plane's engine."
Hundreds of thou- sands of Weibo users had a field day, with one com- menting sarcastical- ly: "Grandma, this is
not a wish fountain with turtles."
Police at Shanghai Pudong International Airport said the woman was a devot- ed Buddhist and believed the coin offering would ensure her safety on the flight.
The woman will not face police action, Chinese state media reported on Wednesday.
The People's Daily newspaper, citing police, said that while she had bro- ken the law and would normally serve five days behind bars, she is exempted because she is aged over 70.
