This Woman Can't Hear Men Due to a Rare Temporary Condition
By Arianna Yaptango
A woman in China is making headlines for a rare type of tem- porary hearing condition that makes her unable to hear men. According to
the Daily Mail,
the patient, only identified as Ms. Chen, woke up one morning and couldn't hear her boyfriend speak.
Chen went straight to Qianpu Hospital where she was seen by an ear, nose, and throat specialist. Dr. Lin Xiaoqing, who treated Chen, told reporters, "She
was able to hear me when I spoke to her, but when a young male patient walked in, she couldn't hear him at all."
The night before, Chen felt nausea and suffered from a ringing in her ears. She was also under a lot of stress, working late and not get- ting enough sleep. Chen thought little of it and went to sleep as usual before waking up with the condition.
Doctors were ini- tially puzzled by her symptoms, but she was eventually diag- nosed with
"reverse-slope hearing loss, in which she could only hear high frequencies."
The Mail reports the condition only affects one in nearly 13,000 patients with hearing prob- lems. It's also dif- ficult to diagnose because patients and medics can be unaware it exists.
Dr. Xiaoqing believes fatigue and too much stress may have contributed to Chen's hearing loss and expects her to make a full recovery.

The 1958 episode of “Trackdown” had some eerie paral- lels to today.
A clip from a 1950s TV show is going viral because of some eerie parallels to President Donald Trump and his plan to build a wall.
The episode of the series “Trackdown” titled “The End of the World” (which HuffPost original- ly covered before Trump was inau- gurated) featured a conman by the name of Trump ― Walter Trump ― who was try-
ing to sell a wall to a town to pro- tect it from mete- orites.
“I am the only one, just me,” Trump said on the show. “I can build a wall around your homes that noth- ing can pene- trate.”
The episode aired on May 8, 1958, with Lawrence Dobkin as Walter Trump, Snopes reported.
Much like President Trump claimed “I alone” can fix the nation’s problems in 2016, the Trump in the TV show said “I
alone” had a message about the end of the world ― and a way to prevent it.
His answer? Build a wall.
The Trump on the show also had a penchant for threatening lawsuits.
“Be careful, son,” he warned in one scene. “I can sue you.”
And to round out the parallels, the fictional Trump was called a liar by the show’s protagonist, Texa s Ranger Hoby Gilman, who was played by Robert Culp.
