Got A Light? Suspected Drunk Driver Runs Back To His Burning Car To Light Up Cigarette
By Gina Tron
A suspected drunk driver allegedly caused a car wreck, then walked back to his burning car so he could light a cigarette on the flames.
Robert Quigley, 25, rear-ended an SUV that was stopped in traffic on a high- way in Citrus Heights, Calif., on Sunday, police say. It’s suspected that Quigley was driving around 75 to 80 mph at the time of the crash, according to KTXL in Sacramento. He' s been charged on suspicion of driving under the influence.
A Citrus Heights Police officer said he spotted Quigley’s car post-collision after it burst into flames. He said he observed Quigley switch
seats with his female passen- ger. Quigley allegedly later admitted that he was the one driving.
Quigley, who was shirtless at
the time of the crash, allegedly left his car but then returned to light a cigarette with the flames. In doing so, he lost off part of his eyebrows, the Sacramento
Bee reported.
Quigley’s sedan was fully engulfed in flames after the collision. Police believe the crash may have punctured the
car’s fuel line, according to the Sacramento Bee.
Quigley told police, “Yeah I’m not afraid of fire. I deal with this kind of stuff all the time,” according to KTXL.
Quigley sus- tained a burn on his neck from his seatbelt. That was the only reported injury in the inci- dent.
It wasn’t the first time he was arrested on sus- picion of a DUI this month. He was arrested on similar charges a week earlier in Grass Valley
