Donald Trump Impersonator Is Tossed Out Of U.S. Open Hospitality Tent
Josh Peter, USA Today
SOUTHAMP- TON, N.Y. — A Donald Trump impersonator got thrown out of the U.S. Open corporate hospitality tent Friday.
The man said his real name is Tommy Mundy, that he lives near Long Island and he showed video of interactions he said took place this week — including shak- ing hands with Rickie Fowler, the No. 7- ranked golfer in the world, and playful verbal exchanges with Graeme McDowell and Andrew “Beef” Johnston.
Shortly before getting thrown out, Mundy, standing on a raised patio, greeted “Beef” as the beefy Johnston walked toward the green on No.1at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club.
“We are going to franchise Arby’s like never before,’’ Mundy shouted as the heavyset golfer lumbered toward the green. “You’re a tremendous player, young man.’’
The moment drew laughter from several people on the patio area of Champions Pavilion, the
corporate hospi- tality tent. But the act didn’t last much longer.
Mundy turned his attention to golfer Lanto Griffin, whose birthday was Friday.
“Happy 30th birthday, from the president of the United States,’’ Mundy boomed. “You are a tremen- dous big hitter, young man.’’
With Mundy still in mid-delivery, the hospitality
manager arrived and said, “Get out of here.’’
Mundy tried to continue addressing the golfer, but the manager was unrelenting.
“Out. Out. You, too,’’ she said,
shifting her gaze to Mundy’s side- kick, who was dressed as a Secret Service agent.
The imperson- ators left without incident.
