Goodwill Worker Finds Mistakenly Donated $42,000 Cash
By Ben Hooper
March 30 (UPI) - - An employee sorting donations at a Goodwill thrift store in Oklahoma made a surprising dis- covery -- $42,000 cash wrapped between two sweaters.
Andrea Lessing, who only recently started work at the Goodwill store in Norman, said she was sorting through a pile of donations when she felt an odd
lump wrapped up
in two sweaters.
Lessing said she thought the lump felt like books, but discovered stacks of cash.
"My first thought was that it was fake. We've seen $5 and $20 donated here and there, but never in my life had I seen that much money,"
Lessing told CNN.
Lessing handed in her discovery to supervisors, who were able to find identifying
documents among the cash that allowed them to contact the money's owner.
Goodwill Industries of Central Oklahoma
said the person who mistakenly donated the money gave Lessing a $1,000 reward for her honesty.
Lessing said she plans to use the reward money for her daughter's upcoming birth- day.
FloridaManSees'Avengers:
Endgame' 191 Times For
GuinnessWorldRecord
By Ben Hooper
March 29 (UPI) - - A Florida cinephile broke a Guinness World Record by seeing Avengers: Endgame in movie theaters nearly 200 times.
Romiro Alanis of Riverview said he was inspired to seek the Guinness World Record for most cinema produc- tions attended of the same film after the former record-holder, NemRaps,
saw Avengers: Infinity War, the previous film in the franchise, 103 times.
Alanis nearly doubled the record by going to
see Endgame 19 1 times in 90 days.
"Movies teach us deep messages about life, culture and society," Alanis told Guinness.
He said super- hero films in par- ticular teach audi-
ences
about "helping people and those in need, which I'm very passion- ate about."
"We might not have superpow- ers but with acts of kindness we can change someone's life," he said.
He said it took some doing to see the film so many times in the 90 days, ending on July 29, 2019.
"The most difficult part about this attempt was giv- ing up my social life with my fami- ly, the gym and managing my work hours and screening times
at
the theaters," he said.
Alanis said it took time for Guinness to process his application and go over his sub- mitted evidence, which included photos and ticket stubs. He finally received word this month that he was an official record-holder.
"It would be an honor to be there with many other famous title hold- ers, but most importantly it would make all sacrifices, love and effort I gave to be paid off bringing a big smile on my face," he said.
