Tito's: Don't Use Our Vodka To Make Hand Sanitizer
By WWJ News
(WWJ) It's great in a mule, with tonic, or just on the rocks — but you probably don't want to use Tito's vodka to make hand sani- tizer.
The reason: It's not quite strong enough. Responding to a tweet from some- one who claimed to have done so, Tito's succinctly explained that while their vodka contains 40% alcohol, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention rec- ommends that hand sanitizers contain at least 60% alcohol in order to be effec- tive.
Per the CDC, "Washing hands with soap and water is the best way to get rid of germs in most sit- uations. If soap and water are not readily available, you can use an alcohol-
based hand sani- tizer that contains at least 60% alco- hol. You can tell if the sanitizer con- tains at least 60% alcohol by looking
at the product label."
Due to hoarding over Coronavirus fears, shoppers in metro Detroit and nationwide have been reporting that hand sanitiz- er is disappearing from store shelves; and prices for the products are spik- ing online.
