Brazil’s President Shocked By Country’s 1,000 Annual Penis Amputations
By Nelson Oliveira, NY Daily News
Wash your pri- vate parts, Brazilian men.
That’s the latest message from Brazil’s far-right President Jair Bolsonaro, who expressed his shock Thursday after learning that poor hygiene leads to 1,000 penis amputa- tions in the South American country every year.

“In Brazil, we still have 1,000 penis amputations every year due to a lack of water and soap,” he told reporters, according to Brazil’s Folha de
São Paulo news- paper. “We have to find a way to get out of the bottom of this hole, helping these people by raising aware- ness, showing them what they really have to do and avoid getting to this ridiculous point."
Bolsonaro, who was sworn into office in January
and has been dubbed “Trump of the Tropics,” made the remarks after a meeting at the education min- istry, saying he was worried about the “alarm- ing statistic."
This is not the first time the for- mer army captain made headlines in connection to men’s private
parts. He was widely ridiculed last month
for tweeting an obscene video of a man fingering his own anus and being urinat- ed on by another man during an outdoor Carnival block party in São Paulo.
Among his previ- ous controver- sies, Bolsonaro once said he
wouldn’t rape a congresswoman because she was too ugly and would prefer his son die in an accident than be gay.
The country’s health ministry did not provide data to back up his amputation claim, but it said that poor hygiene does lead to health problems,
including penile cancer. Although rare, the disease accounts for 2% of all types of cancer affecting men in Brazil and is more common in Brazil’s impov- erished north and northeast regions, accord- ing to the health ministry.
“To prevent penile cancer, it is necessary to clean the organ with soap and water everyday, especially after sex and mastur- bation,” accord- ing to the depart- ment’s website.
The Brazilian Urology Society said the figure is correct, but it hasn’t been updated in at least 10 years, Folha reported
