Man Pretends To Be Elderly Woman’s Grandson, Scams Her Out Of Cash
NBC 2 News: COLLIER COUN- TY, Fla. – 29- year-old William Ringer, a tran- sient in Collier County, was arrested after he allegedly scammed an eld- erly woman out of $6,000 by pre- tending to be her grandson.
Ringer was arrested Wednesday on charges of exploitation of an elderly person less than $10,000, fraud and petty theft.
According to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, Ringer called the victim, who resides in Michigan, claim- ing to be her
grandson.
Ringer told the victim that he was in trouble: he had gotten a DUI and needed $6,000.00 to clear him.
According toNBC2
News, “the woman told detectives the man talked fast and sounded like he could be her grandson. When she told him she didn’t have $6,000, he allegedly asked her how much she had and she told him.
Deputies said Ringer told the womantogotoa Walmart in Michigan and wire the money
to William Alan Ringer at a speci- fied Walmart in Collier County. When the woman questioned Ringer’s request, he said Ringer was helping him out and not to tell his parents.
After completing the transaction, the woman con- tacted her family members who spoke with her actual grandson, who was not in any trouble, deputies said.”
The woman then tried contacting Walmart to try and stop the transaction, but the money had already been col- lected.
Florida Man Finds Air-to- air Missile At Airport
A mysterious air- to-air missile was discovered at the Lakeland Kinder International Airport on Friday.
The missile was found near Draken International, a defense contrac- tor located at the airport.
The discovery of the weapon led to a partial evacua- tion of the airport.
The unarmed
French S-530 air- to-air missile was moved to a muni- tion storage facili- ty at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa.
Brandon Hanner, the chief of media operations at MacDill, told The Ledger “it is secured and safe and they are just waiting on when and where they are going to dis- pose of the mis- sile. Those
details are yet to be solidified.”
According to Hanner, weapons like the one found in Lakeland are usually taken to the explosives range and deto- nated, however the missile found in Lakeland was deemed “too large” to be deto- nated at MacDill Air Force Base, so disposal logis- tics are “being planned out.”
