Woman In ‘Mock
Wedding’ Tricked Into
Marrying Stranger
By Kathleen Joyce, Fox News
A woman claims she was deceived into marrying a stranger in a “mock” wedding in China.
The 21-year-old unidentified woman, from Hong Kong, said she was asked to play a bride in a mock wedding as part of train- ing in order to become a wed- ding planner, the BBC reported Wednesday.
The woman origi- nally signed up to be a make-up artist after seeing a post on Facebook. However, she was convinced by the firm to become a wed- ding planner instead because she could make more money. She received a week of free training in Hong Kong before trav- eling to the Chinese province of Fujian for the mock wedding.
However, as the simulated wed- ding went on, she and the groom signed a real marriage document. She was told by the company that the marriage would be voided
after, the South China Morning Post reported.
The woman did not realize she was married until she returned to Hong Kong and sought legal help.
“It’s a new form of marriage scam,” Tong Kamgyiu, the director of the
Rights and Benefits Committee of the Hong Kong Federation of Trade
Unions, told the BBC. “I feel dis- appointed and cannot believe it’s even happen- ing in modern Hong Kong.”
It was not imme- diately clear who the woman was married to but she may have to “apply for a divorce,” the BBC reported. Each year, an average of 1,000 Hong Kong- China marriage scam cases occur, according to the outlet.
Police Say Man With No Hands and No Legs Is Armed and On the Run
By Gabrielle Bluestone
Authorities in Florida are searching for an armed quadruple amputee who's reportedly been on the run since Tuesday, hoping to question him about his involve- ment in a double murder.
Sean Petrozzino, 30, reportedly lost his legs, hands and parts of his arms to bacterial meningi- tis years ago. Police say he
moved in with his parents last week after separating from his wife amidst some seri- ous financial issues.
Both of his par- ents were both found dead Tuesday morning after Sean's mother, Nancy Petrozzino, failed to show up for her job as a schoolteacher.
Sean Petrozzino was last seen on an ATM surveil- lance camera Tuesday morn- ing. Although
police say he's currently a "per- son of interest" and not an official suspect in the double murder, a spokesperson did caution that he's armed with a gun.
A prosthetics expert told
the Orlando Sentinel you don't need a hand to shoot both your par- ents—just the will—as most guns can appar- ently be fired by the handless, "without special devices."
